Harrogate Fair Trade E-Shop works in collaboration with Henshaws Specialist College, providing fair trade products for delivery or click & collect in the Harrogate and Knaresborough area.
The products we sell at Harrogate Fair Trade Shop help people feed their families, send their children to school and pay for medical bills without the need for aid; some help to build hospitals and schools, get people back on their feet after earthquakes and provide dignity to people with disabilities. We sell fantastic, innovative and unusual products which are a huge testament to the skill of the makers.
We are part of a worldwide fair trade movement which supports some of the poorest people in the world to work their way out of poverty. Many of the people who make the things we buy in this country live a precarious hand to mouth existence with little support when things go wrong, in a system which puts profit before people. Fair trade, on the other hand, puts people right at the centre, with an emphasis on long term partnerships where skills and ideas are shared, products are developed, and a route to market is created. The result is the fantastic products you see on the website and the stories behind them of lives transformed.
Although we have ethics at the centre of what we do our range is a carefully chosen collection of interesting and unusual pieces and quality foods. This website showcases just a sample of some of the best selling products we sell in the shop.
We are delighted to have teamed up with Henshaws Specialist College to bring you our online selling platform. Henshaws students have worked in the shop for many years as part of their work experience programme but recently have not been able to access the same opportunities to work in the community because of covid. This new collaboration was born out of the desire to keep providing meaningful work experience - students will have experience of all levels of online retail from picking and packing stock, to web skills and marketing - whilst at the same time helping out another local charity. Together we aim to grow this new venture and see where it takes us.
