Come and join our Hong Kong community as they prepare to celebrate the Lunar New Year on Saturday 25th January from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm in St Peter's Church.
There will be a demonstration of how Fai Chun (Spring Festival Couplets) are made. These refer to the traditional decorations used during the Chinese New Year, where auspicious words are beautifully written in calligraphy on red paper. These couplets are pasted on walls and doors in pairs and usually express best wishes for the coming year. You can choose your own words, and we will write a Fai Chun for you to welcome the Lunar New Year.
Traditional food will also be available: dim sum such as shrimp dumplings, siu mai, Chinese duck bun, sticky rice chicken, fried spring rolls and fried wontons! And for dessert why not try some: sweet lotus seed red bean soup, Laughing Dates, walnut pastry, black sesame bun, Hong Kong-style egg waffles or egg tarts? Hot drinks such as coffee, milk tea, Chinese tea and bubble tea will be served along with pastries and festive candies.
Join us to celebrate the arrival of Spring and enjoy delicious food! All donations towards the cost will be gratefully received and any profit will go towards supporting the Church's renovation of St Mary’s Chapel!
