St Peter’s choir leads the worship at our 11:00 am and 6:30 pm services every Sunday, when Choral Matins and Choral Evensong (and, twice a month, Choral Communion) are sung, usually according to the Book of Common Prayer.
The choir has a longstanding place in St Peter’s history. Our choral repertory is notable for its variety, spanning as it does some six centuries, and for its quantity, comprising a still growing collection of hundreds of anthems and service settings. Recently we performed Messiah in Holy Week with professional soloists and orchestra, and will be performing the St Matthew Passion similarly in April 2019.
The choir rehearses from 7:30 pm til 9:00 pm every Thursday evening. We actively seek new members who will enjoy the experience of regular rehearsal and performance in a friendly and supportive environment.
At present the choir consists wholly of adults, but we are looking to encourage musically gifted teenagers, who might in a few years be looking for choral scholarships at university, to acquire a good grounding in the Anglican church repertoire. The church also runs a sponsorship scheme for especially talented youngsters who take advantage of the experience and musical training we can offer and who regularly attend practices and services.
Potential new recruits of all ages (or, if preferred, their parents) are warmly invited to contact John Longstaff to discuss matters further, either by email: John Longstaffor by telephone on 07974 742991.
