John studied piano, organ, harmony and counterpoint with his father Jack, and gained his FRCO on his seventeenth birthday. He held the position of Organ Scholar at Girton College, Cambridge, from 1979-1983. He has held full-time posts as rehearsal pianist and ballet conductor at the Opera House in Kiel, Germany, and with Northern Ballet Theatre. He has been Musical Director of the Sheffield Symphony Orchestra since 1993 and is active as a freelance arranger and copyist. John joined St Peter’s as its organist in 2003 and took over the role of Director of Music from brother Oliver in 2012.  He plays for the 11.00am and 6.30pm services every Sunday, and for weddings and funerals as required.  For further information please see his website, or if you’d like to get in touch with him you can send him an email.
