Supporting our £2.5 million project

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu

Although the building works have now been completed, there is still a shortfall of almost £70,000 as at November 2013.

I am delighted to commend this appeal to you. St Peter’s Harrogate is a growing church, dedicated to meeting the needs of the busy town around it.  Please give generously to help it continue to serve God and neighbour, and to move forward in confidence and faith.

Sentamu, Archbishop of York

Since the building development project started we have undertaken a wide range of fundraising activities:

  • We held a wonderful ‘Night on the Tiles’ evening, which raised £4,500 through ticket sales and an auction of donated gifts.
  • Our first official Gift Day for this purpose raised £147,000; the Vicar and others abseiled down the church tower.
  • ‘Hymns and Pimms’ – a picnic style lunch with a glass of Pimms following the 11.00 am service in church where the Harrogate Band accompanied us as we sang our favourite hymns.
  • A 3D exclusive premier of ‘Toy Story’ at the Odeon cinema; half the proceeds from the ticket sales were donated.
  • ‘Pedal for St Peter’s’ – we held a sponsored cycle in church.
  • ‘Come Dine with Us’ raised over £4,000 and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone taking part.
