Building project

“Building a church of the future at the heart of Harrogate”

Meeting the Challenges…

In 2007 we decided to redevelop our magnificent Victorian church building in the centre of Harrogate in order to meet the challenges of the 21st century.  We believe that we should open up the building to let the world see in and enable us to extend our vision.

At present …

We have a wide range of service opportunities (see Worship and Learning page for more details), catering for every taste on Sundays and throughout the week.  Our congregations continue to grow.

Every morning (except on Sundays) our Breakfast Club feeds those who are homeless or in need, and we hand out food parcels daily in the late afternoon.

As the town centre church we hose a variety of civic services throughout the year.

Wherever and however we can, we offer spiritual and physical nourishment to all who need it, but our building needs to be updated to meet the increasing demands made upon it.

Have a look at the layout of the church building as it was before work.  (See St Peter’s now)

Our Vision …

We want to develop our youth work and to increase our involvement within the local community even further.  Our building project will enhance what we already do as well as doing even more. Our new building will provide an inspirational background for our work in the town centre.  In particular it will:

  • provide us with a community hall for youth work and training opportunities
  • increase the number of meeting rooms for community use and to accommodate our growing range of activities
  • introduce new glazed entrances and doorways which will invite the outside world in to share our magnificent building.

The project …

We engaged Architects Pearce Bottomley to design the new areas and to enhance existing spaces (See Architects Proposals).  We obtained necessary Planning Permissions and appointed the York-based building contractors William Anelay.  We are now well advanced with the building work, as well as working hard to raise the required £2.5 million.
